YThe Deweyville ISD Cross Country team which consist of Levi Wright,Gunner Stanley, Lane Totino, Brayden Sims, Jonathon Jenkins and Kyle Coker won the District meet and qualified for the Regional meet in Huntsville.

The Pirates edged out the Bulldogs last night 24-21 with a strong performance from Lance Wilhelm. Wilhelm gained 286 yards on 28 carries with 2 TD's. One TD was a 71 yd. run with other TD being a 70 yd. run. Gavin Buxton scored the first TD on pass reception from Keevin Gordon from 31 yards out. The Pirates totaled 391 yards on the night and 336 on the ground and 55 through the air. The Pirates played tough defense all night making a goal line stand in the first half and several short field stops in the second half. Skyler Beane had a great interception to kill a scoring drive late in the second quarter. The Pirates start District play next week with Shelbyville at Shelbyville with kickoff being at 7:00PM.

The Lady Pirate volleyball team extended their win streak to 10 games with a 5 set win over the Lady Sharks of Sabine Pass (25-16)(23-25)(25-11)(22-25)(15-11). The Lady Sharks came to play as they gave the Lady Pirates all they had in the battle. After starting the match off with a decisive 25-16 1st set win, the Lady Pirates failed to gain their footing in the second set as Sabine Pass took it 23-25. The Lady Pirates rebounded nicely with another decisive victory in the 3rd set 25-11. The Lady Pirates would struggle to gain their footing once again as the Lady Sharks forced a 5th set as they took the 4th set 22-25. In the 5th and final set, the Lady Pirates took it to the Lady Sharks to preserve not only their current win streak, but also to retain the title of being the last undefeated team in district. Key factors in the victory include teamwork, foot movement, confidence, and determination.

With the win, the Lady Pirates are 8-0 in district and 20-12 for the year. JV1 beat the Lady Sharks JV team in straight sets (25-12)(25-10). Deweyville will travel to take on the Lady Oilers of West Hardin on Friday 10/5/18.
Oh what a day it was at Deweyville High School on Friday, 9/28/18. The day started with a successful, fun filled pep rally hosted for our undefeated Lady Pirates which featured the best school spirit and atmosphere we have seen all year. The Varsity Lady Pirates used this atmosphere as they hosted the Lady Rebels of Evadale at 4:30 PM that afternoon. The Lady Pirates started the match off slow, with the Lady Rebels taking the first set (16-25). Facing the adversity of being behind a set, the Lady Pirates fed off of the awesome crowd to kick it into gear and took the next three sets (25-18)(25-22)(25-20) to take the match.
The Lady Pirate volleyball program remain undefeated in district play after they swept the Burkeville Lady Mustangs. The night started off with the JV team winning in straight sets (25-13)(25-10). After taking the lead early, the Lady Pirates never let up as they cruised to victory. Soon after their victory, the Varsity Lady Pirate squad took the court. Once they got their footing under them, the Lady Pirates took down the Lady Mustangs by sweeping them in straight sets (25-15)(25-9)(25-19).

On Saturday 9/22/18, the Junior High Lady Pirate Volleyball teams participated in Bridge City Middle School Tournament. Both the 7th and 8th grade teams walked away with 1 win and 2 losses on the day. The 7th grade squad delivered with tough serves in their lone win on the day and first game of the day against Orangefield. They had a tough go of it against Port Neches Middle School and Bridge City Middle School losing both in straight sets. The 8th grade squad delivered with tough serves and consistent play in their lone win on the day against Orangefield. They started the day off with a tough close loss Bridge City who went on to win the tournament. Following the loss, the Lady pirates rebounded to beat Orangefield in 3 before falling in 3 to Central Middle School of Nederland.
The Junior High Lady Pirates played Monday in their 5th district game of the year against the Lady Pirates of Spurger. Vying to maintain their perfect record in district, the Lady Pirates started the night off strong against Spurger's 7th grade squad. They jumped out to an early lead and never looked back closing out Spurger quickly in straight sets (25-9)(25-7). The 8th grade team kept up with the momentum by also beating Spurger in straight sets (25-13)(25-13).
The Junior High Lady Pirates will travel to face the Lady Bobcats of Hull Daisetta on Monday 10/1/18. With the wins, 7th grade is now 6-4 on the year and 4-0 in district while 8th grade is 6-3 on the year and 4-0 in district. Both teams also share a district win against High Island which isn't included in their records.
The Deweyville Lady Pirate Varsity and JV teams swept the Lady Bobcats of Hull-Daisetta in straight sets Friday night. Varsity started the night off with a straight set win with the scores of (25-20)(25-23)(25-18). JV ended the night also with a straight set win with the scores of (25-16)(25-15). With the win, the Lady Pirates remain undefeated in district with a 5-0 mark and 17-12 for the year. The volleyball program travels to Burkeville on Tuesday night.
All teams within the Deweyville Lady Pirate volleyball program remain undefeated in district play. The week started off with our Junior High Lady Pirates traveling to Devers where they would both come away with straight set wins. 7th grade began the night off with a decisive victory in straight sets (25-7)(25-13). Ava Henson set the tone for the night with her tough, consistent serves. 8th grade would immediately follow with a straight set win of (25-9)(25-23). After dominating the first match, the Lady pirates fell behind quickly in the second match. They never gave up and fought their way back from a double digit deficit to take the second match to conclude the night. Both teams are now 4-0 in district play (1 shared victory over High Island) and have the following overall records: 7th grade 4-2; 8th grade 4-1 (without the shared win calculated in).
On Tuesday night, the High School Lady Pirates would face the Lady Pirates of Spurger. JV started the night off with a straight set win (25-12)(25-20). The Lady Pirates rode their aggressive tough serves to send them victory. It would take 4 sets for the Varsity Lady Pirates to close out Spurger (30-29)(25-16)(20-25)(25-6). After starting slow the Lady Pirates fought to come back from behind in the first set to take a nail biter (30-29). Using the momentum from the first set, the Lady Pirates play was more consistent and effective in the second frame to take it (25-16). The Lady Pirates would fall behind in the 3 match and wouldn't be able to overcome their mistakes this time with Spurger pushing through to take it (20-25). Hungry to close out the 4th frame in true Lady Pirate fashion, the 4th set was dominated by Deweyville with all around consistent serves, play, and teamwork with a final score of (25-5). With the win, the Lady Pirates are now 16-12 on the season and 4-0 in district play.

Friday night versus Kountze Lions our young men played their hearts out. The defense showed up and played physical and fast. Lance Wilhelm led the offense with a big night scoring two touchdowns. Keevin Gordon commanded the offense well and also scored a touchdown. Overall a GREAT TEAM win. Next Friday we will host Evadale in the River Bowl. Come early stay late and be loud.
