Pirates Beat Colmesneil 36-0

September 10, 2018

Deweyville vs. Colmesneil.

We won 36-0 for the first win of the year.  Lance Wilhelm and Gavin Buxton lead the way rushing the football for the Pirates.  Lance had 2 TD's and Gavin had one.  Our defense was very stingy Friday night only giving up 68 yards led by Chase Williams.  Our special teams blocked a punt and scooped and scored.  Overall the Pirates played very well together and showed a lot of class.  Next we will be at home vs. Kountze with kickoff being at 7:00.

Big night of wins for Volleyball

August 31, 2018
The Deweyville Lady Pirates came away with wins in every volleyball match played on Thursday 8/30/18.  The day began with our JV1 team playing in the LCM JV/Freshmen Tournament against Vidor and United High Schools.  After starting slow in the first set against Vidor, the Lady Pirates kicked into form and dominated Vidor to take the match with scores of (17-25)(25-13)(25-15).  They accomplished this feet by utilizing tough serves and an all around consistent court performance.  A match against United immediately followed.  The Lady Pirates fell behind in the first set 16-22 prior to rallying to win the set 25-23.  They would go on to win the next two sets in dominating fashion with scores of (25-13)(25-16).  Serving was once again a main factor of this win with multiple aces and multiple free balls that allowed the Lady Pirates to set up their offensive attack.  With the wins, the Lady Pirates hold the #2 seed leading into bracket play on Saturday.  Players for the JV1 team include:  Justice Williams, Jaclyn Reed, Kaylee Hardin, Aarilynn Richardson, Jenna Kroutter, Lacie McCollough, Jessica Hughes, and Chesleigh Hamilton.

The night concluded with our first Junior High match of the year against Sabine Pass.  After only having 3 practices under their belts, both the 7th and 8th grade teams won their matches with scores of 7th (25-12)(25-19) and 8th (25-13)(20-25)(15-11).  Serves where a key factor in their wins.  Players for 7th grade include:  Kaylee Crooks, Autumn Fitts, Giselle Gonzalez, Rylee Gonzales, Ava Henson, Mykaela Kemp, Brooklyn Leckelt, Hope Rodrick, Grace Sugget, Jillian Thompson, Emily Totino, Riley Wright, and Zamber Hall.  Players for the 8th grade include:  Krista Edwards, Amielle Glisson, Riley Hubbard, Jalacia Miller, Zoe Langley, Emily Phillips, Hayley Summers, Hayden Williams, Haley Williams, Madison Zigler, and Brooke Childers.

Congratulations to all of the Lady Pirates on their victories!!

Softball Playoff Results

April 26, 2018
Lady Pirates lost to Snook 3 to 11 in seven innings.

Snook was able to string together some timely hits in the 6th inning with some errors committed by us to pull ahead, we responded in the bottom of the inning and scored three. We just ran out of innings.

The atmosphere was electric, the field was beautiful, our bleachers were full with the best fans in the world, and our girls had a terrific warm-up and were ready to play. Unfortunately, it just didn't end the way we had hoped it would.

We have three seniors: Karli McClelland, Alyssa Cody and Grace Nicholson
Two Juniors: Allie and Maddie Bean
One Sophomore: Jaycee Summers
Five Freshmen: Bree Clark, Jacelyn Reed, Raegan Chance
Lacie McCollough, and Jena Kroutter

My senior class will be greatly missed!! I have had the pleasure of coaching each of them and working along side these young ladies for the past two seasons. Their leadership will be greatly missed along with their crazy sense of humor. We have one going to McNeese, one to Lamar and one to Sam Houston.  I want to wish them all the best! Thank you Seniors!!!

I must give a shout out for Pam Willis for being so gracious in keeping our book and for driving us all the way to Willis, Texas last night ( it was a very late night). Thank you Pam!

Thank you to our parents/grand parents/families/fans who went above and beyond the call of duty to make this season extra special for the girls.

To be continued 2019,

Powerlifting Teamwork Builds State Qual

March 05, 2018

Deweyville is proud to present two state qualifiers for our 2018 Powerlifting team.

Freshman Shelby Crumpler received 2nd place in all of her meets, lifting an impressive 255 squat, 155 bench, and 260 in dead lift giving her a 640 lb total. Shelby worked hard during practices 3 days week, as well as put in extra time during open gym opportunities.  She credits her teammates, Lacy Roderick and Kelsey Hyatt, for pushing her to succeed.

Remarkably, this is Junior Kelsey Hyatt’s first year to powerlift, starting her career off with a bang she is Deweyville’s second state qualifier. She admits she started off benching 55 lbs. Kelsey says she started working everyday training and pushing herself reaching 70 lbs during qualifiers. Her first meet she received 3rd place, but climbed the ranks to first for every meet after. She has found that she loves powerlifting, partly because of the new friends she has met and grown close to.

Both girls attribute their successes to the team support they both give and receive, proving the old adage to be true; teamwork truly does make the dream work!Kelsey Hyatt and Shelby Crumpler Qualifies for State
